Developmental Editing — $0.012/word
I usually recommend developmental editing if you’re early on in your story, or struggling with how to make your story your own. I’ll review your manuscript fully at least once, leaving your notes and suggestions along the way. I’ll also give you a final report at the end after I’ve fully grasped your story and characters. I’ll include suggestions on character depth, growth, relationship connections, story arc, build, and journey. This will also include hooking and investing your readers and making sure each scene keeps the plot moving forward. You’ll also have access to me to help clarify any questions you have, including a one-hour Zoom or phone call to discuss if needed.
Copy Editing / Line Editing — $0.012/word
I combine these because I like to do both at one time. This is where I get into the most important aspects of editing. I check for things like grammar errors, spelling, punctuation, typos, repeated words or phrasing, continuity and characterization inconsistencies, tense continuity, missing words, fact-checking, flow, transitions, and unclear phrasing. I’ll also delve into suggestions on word and phrasing, suggestions to strengthen emotional depth, ideas for adding details to support your plot, character consistency, flow and pacing thoughts, and anything else I notice that will strengthen your story.
Proofreading — $0.006/word
I recommend proofreads are done by someone besides the person who did your initial copy/line edits. If that wasn’t me, I’m happy to proofread for you. This final pass is done after all other edits and reads from beta and/or alpha readers.
In this, I will check for typos, spelling, grammar errors, spelling and capitalization inconsistencies, missing or duplicate words, and missing or misused formatting and punctuation.
Brainstorm & Development — $50/hour
Zoom consultations for story brainstorming and development.

Hi there! I’m Kim, your story-obsessed editor.

In my youngest memories, I was always highly engaged in stories. I remember being six years old, lying in bed way passsed when I was supposed to be asleep, agonizing over whether two characters I’d fallen hard for would end up together, trying to figure out how they could make it happen.
This isn’t any different more than four decades later. Whether it be from the latest book I’m working on, the one I’m reading, or the show I’ve binged late into the night, I’m always imagining how the story will go and working around how the writers could get there the best.
I love character depth, romance, and the art of piecing together plots in a way that will have the greatest impact. This is something I’ve been interested in my whole life, but started really digging deeply into about 12 years ago. Goals like the art of writing well, how to edit based on professional standards, and developing my worlds and characters. It took the place of my photography career and I started working with other authors and storytellers to help them get their work to be as strong as they could be.
My passion is to approach all writers’ work with the intention of keeping the story in their voice, and finding the heart in what they’re trying to tell. I especially love working with new writers, neurodivergent writers, and writers writing English as a second (or even third or more!) language. I believe if you have a passion for telling a story, you will have strengths we can highlight. We’ll make your work stronger together.
It’s really important to me that we become a team and I’m open to helping you work through struggles to get your story told and your book published, if that’s your eventual goal. I aim to give all feedback in an honest and most importantly, gentle way with full understanding that you’re trusting me with something very personal and ultimately, you’re in the driver’s seat!
My specific interests are romance, dystopian, sci-fi, and romantacy. I especially love layered stories and characters with romance at the heart of them. I’m open to working on other genres, including erotica (triggers depending).
Personal hobbies: Writing, photography, pets, fiber arts, Turkish series and all things Turkish, screaming online over great and frustrating media, music, and putting more things on my Kindle than I will ever successfully read.
Longtime-wife to a disabled husband and a homeschool mom of two teens, along with a menagerie of various pets and farm animals. Dreams of a vacation to Türkiye to use my rough Turkish someday.
